I was listening to a tape while driving to work this morning and the speaker talked about wealth, materialism and greediness. The fascinating to me is his definitions of some of they key terms in the sermon. Greediness he said is ‘get all you can, can all you have and sit on the can’. I wonder how many times in my personal decision making process I fall into that category. I wonder how the world would have been if there are fewer people in that category, especially in Nigeria, where respect is determined by how many 'cans' you can sit on. Another astonishing interpretation the guy gave to materialism is ‘using the money you don’t have to buy what you don’t need, in order to impress the people you don’t like’. Wise words for those of us with flashy credits cards buying stuffs we don’t need to show them. I wonder who 'them' are.
